It is 26 degrees outside the sun is shining and where are my two couch potato's OUTSIDE. LOL Last year I couldn't get them to stay outside more than to potty and back in they came. Today they have been outside until they start woofing and barking it up which makes it so I have to call them in. In for a snack of a peanut butter sandwich and to rest for awhile. Then up pops Gretchen / Pearl at the back door wanting out again. I feel like a door man. Any one know of a revolving door for pets ?
I had them diving off the deck into the snow for dry dog food. Gretchen loves the game a lot , Pearl not so much. Pearl looks at me saying; "Mom, that is way to much work . Can you just give me my share here on the deck, please?"
My backyard looks like a herd of elephants marched thru it. Not a inch of snow that doesn't have paw prints in it. The fat squirrels have been out in the big tree teasing the dogs unmercifully. The girls have been running to and fro all over the yard chasing who knows what. I know tonight there will be a lot of yipping and grunting and whimpering in their dreams while they sleep.

How Gretchen got her Dr. before her name.
This pass fall Gretchen developed something called cherry eye which needed to be surgically corrected. I thought it would be a good idea to have the growth on her back leg just above the knee removed at the same time. To save me some money and time in the future.
Well..... it didn't turn out that way, she took her own stitches out not once but twice. The first time I took her back to the vet they stapled it back together. The second time they had to put her under and clean and gather up the raw edges to re -stitch it . Spent a lot more money than I wanted too. But my gosh I love my coon hounds.
These are the emails sent to the vet Dr. Meyer during all this fuss when Gretchen had her surgery .
Dr Meyer (9/19/2010)
I went to bowling this afternoon and came home to a E-collarless dog . Who decided to rip out her stitches from her hind leg. Bloody mess. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr As far as I can tell she did not touch her eye. I am bringing her in early and will leave her to get it cleaned and re- stitched. I have a DR appt at 9:15 on the other side of GR. When done I could come back and pick her up. If need be I can leave her overnight.
Natalie
My Gretchen + hated harness + much hated E-collar = one moody whinny pissed off dog.
I got home took off leash/harness and let her spend sometime out in the yard while I went in to get Diva Pearl... Got back out side just as Gretchen slipped out of her E-collar. So now when out of my sight she has the hated harness on which the hated E-collar is tied to. She is not happy with me at all. Being a mean mother is hard on me too I tell her. She gave me the look that says," I not buying it, mom". LOL
A big Thanks for letting me just drop in and leave her on Friday. I knew I was leaving her in best hands , didn't worry as much as last time. You all are the best♥♥♥ !!!!!!!
Thank God for all the over time I've been getting. Sorry but another vet bill just wasn't what I had planned to spend it on. Still glad you were there for us. Natalie
Dr.Meyer and staff...(9/26/2010)
Hey, maybe this E- collar thingy isn't that bad. My sisser Diva Pearl stays out of my way. Mom feels sorry for me and lets me have some of her good yogurt all to myself yummy for my tummy banana strawberry not that cheap vanilla I usually get. I am getting lots of tummy rubs and ears scratches. I get more of the blanket at night time. I am pissing off my nasty neighbor more cause now my barking is magnified and I can direct it at his house. LOL That is all for now cause I hear Mom and Diva Pearl coming .
Your loving patient,
Dr. Gretchie May Palmer
P.S, I got my Dr's degree in sutures removal. It was a intensive (two classes) on the spot training course.
So there you have it how Gretchen got her Dr degree.

Winter days
We awoke to a snowy world outside this morning. Opened up the back door to let the girls out and cold cold wind blew into the house. Dogs paused in the doorway for a second but then ran outside to do what they need to. Soon they were back at the door with Gretchen barking to be let back in. In they came with Gretchen running in to stand by the refrigerator. Turning her head upwards to the top of the refrigerator for to tell me that the coming in the house snacks were up there. That I was taking my sweet time in getting them for her and her sisser. Who is the one that is trained here me or them. Pearl lets Gretchen do all the talking for the treats while she just stands there looking oh so pretty. LOL.
I am talking more to them in simple words. I am trying to teach them yawn , stretch , flop (they shake their heads every so often which makes their ears flop) shake.... as in whole body shake.... not paw shake. They have caught on to so many other words without me realizing it. Like backup, up , wait for your sisser, down, car, nite nite, treat, cheese, bone, yummy, no, OK, in , out, up stairs, cushie, cheese, water, etc. Gretchen catches on so fast and my girl Pearl well she takes all the time she wants for she is not in a hurry. She takes life as it comes to her ...... sometime she will even get up to greet it but mainly lays there letting it come to greet her. Life is good. Hugs.

Woofing Pearl
Brrrrrrrrrrr It is bitterly cold here. The houndies go out to do what they need to do in the back yard. Then they are in in a flash. I feel like I just get the back door shut tightly, turn and back in they want. I can not find fault with that . I would not want to stay out any longer then I had too .
Pearl this year does not woof at every and all snow plows this winter so far. Which is sooo sooo nice. Pearl would start off woofing at the sidewalk plow that comes by around 2-3 in the morning, sleep a little. Then start woofing at the street plows on the other side of the busy street two streets over until it makes it way to our area then leaves all together. She woofs now only if they are in a 3 block area. She no longers feels the need to woof at the UPS or Comcast trucks any more. She really is a quiet dog compared to Gretchen but she has her moments. Like on the ride in the car going to visit Grandpaw at the VH.

Off to VPC
Saturday afternoon Mom called out to us pups. "Who wants to go for a ride to Vicky's Pet Connection with me". We got all excited and went to stand by the back door. It was hard to wait for Mom to go out front and drive the car back inside the gate so we could get in the car . Finally after ages she comes back inside to get us. I was all ready to go but wouldn't you know it sisser Pearl had to have her sweater put on. Mom knows better than to put one on me. I don't like sweaters or coats.. I like to be all natural. Mom opened the back door of the house saying to us ."Go get in the car". She didn't have to say it twice for we were already headed out the door to the waiting car. The back door of the car was left open so we both jumped in right in. Pearl usually waits for Mom to help get her rear up on the seat but not this time.
It was a long ways to VPC 15 miles. To make the trip go faster we barked our happy barks most of the way. When she pulled in a driveway of VPC, I knew something was up cause she didn't reach for our leashes. Boy, were we disappointed when Mom said we had to stay in the car. She went in and got what she needed plus a little extra. When I saw her coming back out I quickly jumped back to the back seat from the front seat cause I not suppose to be in the front. She said the nice hound loving lady inside sent her out with some treats for us. It took Mom a long long time to open the little packet of treats. I was drooling with anticipation of what was in there. I am not a picky eater like sisser. O' boy did the treats taste as good as they smelled. As always when Pearl is around I have to share. :( I do get to have the first treat then it is Pearls turn, then me again ,etc until too quickly they were all gone. Mom said that I waited my turn very nice this time. It hard to share , I wanted it all.
Mom started up the car for the ride home. After we drove a way and we were getting close to home Mom said something musical to my ears. "Do you think we should stop at Taco Taco Bell and order something?" I in my best barking voice said to her "YES". So she pulled in to the TTB by our house . The lady in the little box had a hard time making out what Mom was trying to order cause I was being naughty with my barking. When we drove up to pay for our food at the second window that lady was laughing at us pups. She smiled when Mom told her that some of the food was for us pups which I all ready knew. Plus I get all the tomato's cause Mom doesn't like them.
Came home Mom shared the TTB food and us pups made sure all the wrappers were licked clean, Boy ,did that TTB hit the spot, now I am ready to go upstairs to take a nap on our people bed . Pearl is already asleep on our cushy in the kitchen. Mom thinks she will join me and read her from her book awhile
So off to dream land I go. Tails Wags and Nose kisses to all

P.S I will let Mom explain why I am a doctor in a future post.

Cold nose ....memories
A friends posting on FB reminded me about this ..Cold nose ....memory.
I had let the dogs outside to go potty that early morning of a cold winters day . Having let them back in, I then went to take my shower. Quickly took it ...got out to dry my self off having one leg resting on the tub....Gretchen quietly came up behind me a stuck her cold cold nose on my butt cheek. I jumped up about a foot in the air I was soooo startled.

But MOM it is cold out there!
Funny this morning they run out the back door and go potty real fast. Back at the back door in a jeffy moment. Woof, bark , woof bark we want in, it is cold out here. They come in and get their coming in treat. Gretchen / Pearl are now curled up on the cushies 1in the kitchen ...1 in the dining room.
Such a hard life.
Such a hard life.

Who is the baking / cooking for?
I decide to make No bake cookies for myself. I got to thinking that maybe I could change up the recipe and make some for the girls. They love peanut butter ,too. They are made with chocolate and since dogs can not have chocolate (one of my fav's in life) I got out the carob powder for theirs. Tweak it a little more. Well, I did make some that the girls keep begging for once they had their first taste of them. So a good start for the homemade dog treat in the year 2011.

Pearl's waking up routine vs Gretchen's
Gretchen... I get out of bed .... zoooooom Gretchen paw's hit the floor . She does a few stretches front and back legs and a shake of the booty and ears her day has started
Pearl is like me, could sleep for ever. I used to almost pull her off the bed in the mornings. So I made up a morning song for her. I sing her a little wake up song using a few words changed around in an old camp song from my church camp days
Rise and shine
And give God the glory, glory
Rise and shine
And give God the glory, glory
Rise and shine
And give God the glory, glory
Coon Hounds of the Lord
The Lord said to Pearl:
Let's get this day a started
The Lord said to Pearl:
Let's get this day a started
Get those paws out of the beddy, beddy
Coon hounds of the Lord
Rise and shine
And give God the glory, glory
Rise and shine
And give God the glory, glory
Rise and shine
And give God the glory, glory
Coon Hounds of the Lord
The Coon hounds the Coon hounds
They stood up by twosie, twosies
The Coon hounds, the Coon hounds
They stood up by twosie, twosies
Stretched and stretched ,shook their bootys
Coon hounds of the Lord
Rise and shine
And give God the glory, glory
Rise and shine
And give God the glory, glory
Rise and shine
And give God the glory, glory
Coon Hounds of the Lord
By then Pearl is up and off the bed slowly walking to the top of the stairs to go down. But wait more stretches at the stair top and booty shaking and ears flapping to be done. She then looks up at me, "OK Mom, I am ready to start my day. Slowly she makes her way down the stairs.
